Occoquan Merchants Association "Christmas in Occoquan" Shopping Spree (Nov. 1 - Dec. 13)

The Occoquan Merchants Association (OMA) shopping spree begins on November 1 and runs through December 13, offering a $1,000 shopping spree and two $250 shopping sprees. Complimentary shopping spree tickets may be obtained at almost fifty shops and restaurants in the Town of Occoquan. The drawing will take place at the Occoquan Town Hall on December 13. No purchase necessary, but must be 18 years of age or older and present to win. (www.occoquanmerchantsassociation.com)

Lorton Workhouse Arts Center Collectors Showcase 2008 (Nov. 13 - Dec. 12)

As part of the 2nd Annual Small Works Exhibition, the Workhouse presents an opportunity to collect original artwork by Workhouse artists while supporting the Workhouse Artists Scholarship Fund. Workhouse artists have submitted original 10" X 10" pieces of art to be juried for selection as part of the 2010 Workhouse Artist's Calendar. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win The Collector's Showcase made up of the twelve pieces chosen to be featured on the calendar. Tickets will be sold 3 for $5.00 and they can be purchased from any Workhouse artist, from the gallery associates in each studio building and from the gallery associates in Gallery W-16. Tickets sales will be ongoing until the drawing on Friday, December 12th. Ticket holders need not be present to win. (www.lortonarts.org)

Town of Occoquan Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Town of Occoquan will light its holiday tree at 8:00p. in conjunction with the Occoquan Merchant's Guild Holiday Open House. The tree lighting will take place at the Occoquan Town Hall (314 Mill Street) shortly prior to the Merchants Guild gift certificate drawing.

The Lorton Workhouse Arts Center's 2nd Annual Small Works Exhibition (Nov. 26 - Jan. 4)

The 2nd Annual Small Works show will feature original 8" X 10" pieces of art created by the members of the Workhouse Artists Association especially for this exhibition. This show will provide the opportunity to view and purchase a wide selection of small works priced for collecting and gift giving. These pieces are suitable for both the novice and the experienced collector. The exhibition will be shown on the second floor of Gallery W-16. Gallery W-16 hours are Sun-Tues, 12PM-5PM, Wed-Sat 11AM to 7PM. (www.lortonarts.org)

Santa Arrives in the Town of Occoquan by Boat (Nov. 29)

At noon Santa will arrive by boat at the Town of Occoquan Docks in Mamie Davis Park. Carriage rides will also be available starting at noon. (www.occoquanmerchantsassociation.com)

Lorton Workhouse Arts Center Holiday Celebration (Nov. 29)

Kick off the holiday season at the Workhouse Arts Center. FREE demonstrations and workshops will be held continuously throughout the day including activities in the Workhouse's Kid Zone, glass art workshops and youth acting workshops. As visitors wander through the artist's studios and the gallery spaces they can listen to the sounds of strolling musicians and enjoy light refreshments. Tenor singing sensation Troy Winemiller and actress and singer Karen Knight will entertain visitors with a holiday concert on the Quad at 4:30 to be followed by a tree lighting ceremony at 5:00. The ceramics program in Building W-8 will be hosting a "glaze your own ornament" fundraiser for the Workhouse. For $22, visitors can glaze their own ceramic ornament, choosing between the Raku firing technique which uses fire and smoke to make unique patterns or the low-temperature kiln firing technique which gives the piece a more traditional look. Lorton Workhouse Arts Center Collectors Showcase Special Event Featuring IONA (Dec. 12)

An exciting fundraising component of the Small Works Exhibition, on view in Gallery W-16 beginning November 26th, is the Collector's Showcase Event featuring a concert by IONA and the drawing for original art work to be held Friday evening, December 12th. Join the Workhouse arts community for an evening of pan-Celtic music and the opportunity to walk away with an original piece of art for your collection. For a donation of $150, guests are invited to enjoy a reception with deluxe hors d'oeuvres and a live musical performance. Following the IONA concert, each ticket holder, through a drawing, will receive one 10"X10" original piece of work from the designated collection to take home that evening. Prince William Marina Christmas Boat Lighting Display and Fireworks (Dec, 13)

Walk the docks at Prince William Marina and enjoy the marina's 10th Annual Christmas Boat Lighting and Decoration Party, Saturday evening, December 13th from 5 to 9pm. Boats are judged and awarded prizes in various categories. Following the announcement of the prize winners the marina will host a fireworks display.  Prince William Marine will also sponsor a "Boat Load of Hope" during the event collecting nonperishable food, clothing, toys, and childrens gifts for those less fortunate in our community.  Please help fill the boat up to the top; all items are distributed in the local area.
